Sharing a meal

I consider this one of the best kitty pictures I've ever taken. These two kitties are happily sharing a box of sardines.

Do you sometimes share a dish when eating out? I do it all the time. The servings are often so huge it would be impossible for me to eat a whole one anyway. Did you know servings today are about 3 times larger than in the 50-s? I wish I knew why.

What an adorable picture Anna!

And yes, my husband and I almost always split something when eating out. The portion sizes are big enough for Goliath these days.

Those cats look just like our cat!

I like to share a plate. My son likes to eat salad entres when we go out to dinner, but they are so big, he ends up wasting half of it. So we usually share one.

I find that when I don't share, I end up picking, picking, picking until everything is gone. I eat way more than I should.

I remember once during class we were shown a sample portion that was common in the 50-s (which was something like what I would normally eat at home), and a portion that is common today. The difference was striking! I wish I could figure out why. It just doesn't seem to make sense commercially :)

Not long ago, I ate out with a friend (a rare treat!) and we shared a salad which was so huge that it was even too big for the two of us. Next time we'll order one portion for 3 people. :P

I love the kitty picture!!

And I had no idea about the portion sizes. I mean I knew they're HUGE now but didn't know they're 3 times the size now. I've always wondered why people back then ate sweets quite often and fried foods and yet stayed thin...Now I know why! (o;

I thought this was so cute that I placed the photo as my wallpaper backdrop on my work computer...(sadly I had to put my little [well, at one time 16lbs]...one 'Annie' to sleep a few months ago--old age of almost 17!!! and now as I miss her I love seeing cats on TV, photos, etc.

Thank you for making my day!

I knew that my husband was the man for me when he took me out to dinner and we split an appetizer and each got our own dessert! We still share our meals.... just not our chocolate!

Hi Stace,

These kitties are not mine... but they didn't mind accepting my humble offering of sardines :)

I thought it was interesting, Anna,that you brought up the portion sizes of the 50's, compared with those of today. All the dishes I use are second-hand. I have a set for Spring & Summer, and another for Fall & Winter. Both sets are probably from the 1940's. It's incredible how "small" the dinner plates are. Honestly, they are the same size as what is used for a salad plate today!
