8 random things meme

Ashley tagged me to write 8 random things about me, so here goes (some of you may already know them!):

1. I learned to read when I was 4 years old, and taught myself to write soon after that.

2. My favorite tasks to do around the house are laundry and ironing; the least favorite is washing dishes.

3. I'm a great cat lover and a proud cat owner.

4. I've been a vegetarian since I was 10.

5. My last real haircut was around that age too; since then, I've been only trimming my hair.

6. When I was 13, I started writing poetry.

7. If I have daughters, I plan to name one of them Magda, after my grandmother.

8. Once, I used to work as a cashier in a supermarket, and it taught me quite a lot about people's consuming habits.

I'm not going to tag anyone; instead, I just invite everyone to play. If you do, drop me a note so I can stop by your blog and check it out. I look forward to finding out more about you, dear blogging friends!

As you must have noticed, I added a poll to my sidebar, asking you ladies if there is any subject you would like to see discussed more often here on 'Anna's Musings'. Those of you who click the option 'other', are welcome to leave me a comment here and expand about it.

And one last blogging announcement: this week, I came across two new lovely blogs, written by such wonderful young ladies:

Bonnie's Bee Thoughts - by a 17-year-old homeschooled daughter, full of sweet and encouraging thoughts.

By His Grace and For His Glory - by Rebekah, 15 years old, a young lady who wishes to bring glory to God by whatever she does. Rebekah also recently joined our team on Mayden Fair, and I'm looking forward to her contributions!

More coherent thoughts are brewing in my head at this moment, and will be shared with you, hopefully, tomorrow. Thank you for all your wonderful, encouraging, touching, challenging and thought-provoking comments and emails. I love hearing from you, and wish you all a wonderful, beautiful day.

I think I will just post the "8 random things" here:
1. I have lived in 6 states but in 16 different houses/towns in my lifetime.
2. I have experienced an earthquake, several hurricanes, several tornadoes, and tons of blizzards.
3. I also own my own business training horses.
4. I have kayaked in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
5. I was once engaged to a NBA basketball player.
6. I was rescued by dolphins the day before Thanksgiving in 1999 during a freak kayak accident out at sea.
7. I don't drink but I collect shotglasses from all around the world.
8. I have spoken on the phone with Monty Roberts (he wrote the famous book "The Man Who Listens To Horses").

Anna, I loved learning about you! :) I LOVE doing laundry and ironing too! But I also like doing dishes by hand with lavendar dishsoap and a candle. Its so relaxing to me. Not so you think I like doing ALL household chores :)...sweeping and mopping give me a very bad back..not sure why. I still do it tho of course but not fond of it because of my back :)
Hugs to you, your a sweet young lady!

I think I shall follow usaincognito's example and post random things here, too. ;) It's just fun.

1. I am trying to learn to be a good homemaker, but I'm basically starting from scratch since my mom worked all of the time.
2.I am a "semi-professional" photographer. I've done several weddings for pay but I've never been to school for it.
3.My family calls me "encyclopedia" because I read so much.
4.I can't stand pork.
5.I've owned American Pit Bull Terriers my entire life, and own 2 right now. I am always having to teach people that they aren't demons.
6.My husband and I have identical teddy bears we got as infants.
7.I love cats almost as much as APBTs.
8.Even when I was a raging feminist, I always secretly admired Ma in the Little House books. Except for how she hated Native Americans.

What fun learning more about each other! Let's see if I can do ten things here.

1. Afraid I've one-upped you here. I was reading at the age of 2 and writing at the age of 3.

2. My favorite musical pieces span the genres from baroque and classical to folk, rock, European heavy metal, Christian industrial, video game and movie orchestral soundtracks, and Celtic dance. My home is most often filled with the quiet sounds of an Internet-streamed baroque station from Germany, running through the computer speakers in the living room.

3. I am probably equal parts feminine homemaker and computer geek. I started working with computers at age 8 and never stopped!

4. On the larger wall of my living room/dining room area is a huge, colorful tapestry showing swans on a pond with a couple of Greek-marble-like architecture items as setting. My father bought it for his dorm room because he wasn't interested in covering it with posters of cars or scantily-dressed women.

5. This is fun, isn't it? I am apt to try unusual foods at least once, especially meats. I have eaten squid, octopus, clams, rabbit, duck, lamb/mutton, and I'm making a roast of goat meat for supper, something I've never tried before.

6. 10 years after I first purchased it, I am still driving my 'college car', the first vehicle I ever purchased. I paid for it in cash, since I hadn't linked a checking account to my savings account yet. It runs good, just needs a quart of oil every few weeks.

7. I started sewing my own clothing a few years ago and now I don't feel right unless I have a project on hand. I'll never need all the clothes I've sewn and have planned to sew, but when I'm done with something I give it away. My latest feat was a sundress made out of an old bedsheet, a trick that I may resort to again the next time I want to sew and my fabric money is short.

8. I got a call yesterday from the department head of the local community college, and agreed to teach an Associate's-level course this fall semester. Intro to Computers on Saturday mornings. This isn't the first time I've been an adjunct there.

9. When people looked at my SAT scores and my brother's SAT scores, they kept mixing us up. He scored higher in verbal and I scored higher in math. I used to tutor in calculus when I was a college student.

10. I chose my husband very carefully. I examined the way people reacted to him, the way his parents and sister treated him, his ability to hold a job, and the way he reacted when things weren't going his way. My mother and I nitpicked every possible fault on the poor guy after each date. Once we married, neither I nor my mother have searched out or pointed out any faults in him since. And I must say, even if I was inclined to, I'd be hard-put to find something genuinely problematic about him! Even when we're annoyed at each other, he's still a wonderful guy.

Yes, those who don't have a blog/would rather do it here are very welcome, of course!

USA, it sounds as though you've had a *very* exciting life so far. :)

RMC, the 'raging feminist' expression got me cracked up with laughter :P

For 'gothelittle rose'
You have interesting music preferences. Could you recommend some Celtic dance music ? Or maybe do a post on your blog about the same.
(I am having to ask you here since I can't post comments at your blog; you have disabled comments for those who don't have a blog.)

(Thanks Anna S.)

I'm actually not well versed in Celtic dance music groups or anything, because I usually pick it up through web radio. But I have my faithful Narada CD with a mix of different stuff on it and a few Lord of the Dance tracks as well. If you like the music style, look up Morris Dancing. :D

I ought to enable anonymous comments, really. I may as well. Thanks for reminding me!

1. My parents named me Kristine when I was born, but always called me Kristi. When I was 12 or so, I asked people to call me Kristine but no one could remember to do it...That lasted only one week! So I am Kristi to this day.

2. I have an expired barber's license (I cut my family and friends' hair still, though.)

3. My husband and I record music, mostly songs we've written and two volumes of hymns. I sing and play piano.

4. I was homeschooled K-12.

5. I tried writing poetry when I was 14. It didn't last long.

6. I kept a journal from the time I was 12 until I was 24, when I got married. It's neat to go back and see how God worked in different situations in my life, and especially how He brought my husband to me.

7. One of my first words/phrases was "What doing?" and one of the hardest words for me to learn was "hospital" - I always called it "hostipal."

8. I enjoy watching thunderstorms.

9. And just for a fun bonus, I have a little boy and a little girl who show me that God brings a miracle into the world every time a baby is born!

I blogged my 8 facts. Anna, what prompted you to make the decision to become a vegetarian?

Anna:
I sometimes think that my life may be too "exciting" at times. I often wonder what it is like to have a calm, quiet day (or week!). But then I stop and think...nah! I enjoy my crazy life!! :) My life is definitely never dull and I am alwasy on the go. (ps...i can pass on some of the excitement to you if you want!)

Wanda,

Quite plainly, eating dead animals simply grossed me out when I was little, and I never got over it :P

USA,

Hehe, thanks, I think my life is exciting enough too... too exciting, maybe :)

Just post what you want to write about! This is your blog and obviously we like what you think and write about :).
Btw could you do my ironing - I think it is the household task I really dislike...

Anna S said...

Jeannine, hehe, my fiance dislikes ironing too, so I think it's very lucky he's going to marry me! ;)

Robert said...

I did it on my blog.

Will you post anymore of your poems?

Anna S said...

Umm yeah. Maybe I will, if I dig up something I'm not too ashamed of :)

I have just discovered your blog! What a delightful young woman you are. I would be very proud if my daughters turned out as fine as you. I am certainly doing my best to make that happen. I will put the 8 random things on my blog later today. Come check it out!

Hi Anna! Your blog is lovely. I too am very pro-life and it is good to see that I wasn't the only that knew how bad the pill is. I was wondering how you meet full nutritional needs being a vegetarian? I know that meat is so contaminated nowadays and can understand why you wouldn't want to eat it. I was just wondering if you took supplements or even eat fish?

I guess I will post 8 things about me. It is neat to see what others post.

1. I have extremely small hands-and can wear child size gloves and rings. Most bracelets and watch bands are too big for my hands as well!

2. I once swallowed a Lite Brite when I was 8 and had to go to the ER and get x-rayed. The doctor told me my whole stomach lit up from swallowing it-as a joke of course!

3. I write poetry and music lyrics often. I enjoy journaling also.

4. I like to draw babies though I have none of my own.

5. I was named Shannon after the Shenandoah Valley in Tennesee.

6. I hate eating raw onions but like onion rings. (wierd huh?)

7. I have never attended a wedding ceremony in my life and I am 29.

8. I am the shortest person of my parents and siblings, yet am the oldest child.

Thanks for letting me share!

Shannon,

There is no problem to get all we need without eating meat and fish. For a vegan, it might be indeed difficult, but a vegetarian has absolutely no problem. You see, there isn't anything *unique* specifically in meat, that we can't do without. I've been a vegetarian for 12 years, and I don't take any supplements, just a healthy diet! If you are interested in finding out more, you are welcome to write to me, or check out my 'Health and nutrition' category.

Thank you for participating in this meme!

2)I was mugged and beaten two years ago.
3)I once got to hold John Lennon's acoustic guitar. Being a huge music fan, this was a major moment in my life.
4)I collect vintage ladies' hats, which decorate my living room wall.
5)I'm a huge fan of the late Audrey Hepburn.
6)I help support a girls' school in Cameroon.
7)I have a cat named Pokey Jones.
8)I took up belly dancing last year and I totally love it. It's great exercise.
